Historical tours
Bahir Dar
-
Is a nice place to visit. The blue
Nile falls are well worth to visit. The volume of the fall is
gratifyingly high, higher than you had ever seen. They gushed
out in great brown and white torrents sending up great plumes
of spray. Lake Tana is the biggest lake in Ethiopia and the
third largest in Africa. The islands of the lake are mostly
holy shines with churches and monuments.
Gondar
-
the Gondar castle are unique in sub-Saharan
Africa. Truly, they would be equally notable in Europe or even
in India. Their settings make the Gondar castle so special.
At a time when all Africans were considered to be barbarians
in mud huts, Gondar castle were built by African – Ethiopian
– in the 17th century. The Gondar castle rises thirty
– two meters and defined the style with its round –
topped towers, crenellated, ramparts and balconies.
Lalibela
-
Is fantastic amongst other things:-
-
It has the biggest monolithic rock
hewn structure in the world.
-
It is a wonder of the world.
-
Each of the 11 churches is of completely
different design.
-
Wood and stone carvings survive from
the time of construction – 12th century.
-
A covered pillar in the oldest church,
saint Mary, is said to have a description of the Alpha &
Omega.
-
They are huge, ornate, and are equally
or more fascinating on the inside.
-
"I weary of writing more
about these buildings, because it seems to me that I shall
not be believed. "
Francisco Alvares - 1520 . |
|
Even today, lalibela seems so remarkable
that you hesitate to describe it in the glowing terms that it
deserves, for fear of being accused of exaggeration
Axum
-
The main wonder of axum is the obelisks
and the ark of the covenant.
The 16th century of St. Mary of Zion was probably built on an
earlier 4th century church and is the holiest church in Ethiopia.
In its sanctuary is said to rest original Ark of the Covenant.
Semien Mountain
-
As Ethiopia is a country that offers
stunning views around almost every corner, the semiens have
to be very spectacular to stand out.
 |
There are some unusual animals in the park,
frequently seen; the big draw is the jaw – drooping
scenery. You climb up from Debark on to a plateau, the
earth beside you descends as much as you ascend. The result
is a drop off about once thousand meters on to rolling
hills below and you are framed by jagged peaks. |
If you walk up through the park you
will find yourself at the very attractive campgrounds popular
to all visitor and you will stand at 4430 meter peak. The second
highest in Ethiopia. The tallest mountain in Ethiopia, and one
of the tallest in Africa, is the 4620 meter Ras Dashen.
